Indoor games is best in the heat!

Over the weekend, I read a story about a lady that walked her Pug during the day when the sun was hot and the ground was unbearable. The women took about a 30 minute walk. The pug passed out a few times along the walk. By the end of the walk, the lady had to call to have someone pick her up and the Pug was dead.

We need to be aware of the temperatures outside when considering walking the dogs. The ground is hotter then the air and can become unsafe for the dogs.

Dogs cool off through their feet. When the ground reaches double and triple temperature the dogs cannot cool off. I have a small wading pool. So, my dogs can dip their feet all year. The cold water helps cool the dogs' center core.

I have a rule if the temperature are 70 degree Fahrenheit or higher, my dogs do not take a walk. I will take them to a lake or river to swim if I feel they need an adventure outside to release energy. Also,  no matter what adventure we decide, I bring water for all my dogs just in case.

During the summer, my boys play inside with the AC. Due to the heat in Texas, my dogs take walks in the fall, winter, and most of the spring.

Walking our dogs in the summer must occur in the early morning hours before the sun rises and heats the ground. Also, we must bring water. Furthermore, paying attention to the dog is best. A dog will let you know if they are becoming too hot. A dog will naturally find a cool place to rest.

When we add inside games, training time, and quality attention walking is not needed. Dogs have a natural high temperature of 104 degree Fahrenheit. Therefore, dogs become easily heated and tired in hot temperatures over 70 degree Fahrenheit. We must protect them and walk our dogs when the weather is cool and the ground is reasonable.

Caring is sharing. Please share Bully Love & Devotion to spread education and animal awareness, while helping to find homes for dogs in need.

Remember to keep cool, listen to your animals, provide fresh cool water with ice, and a place to cool off. Have a great safe summer.

Please leave a comment. Let me know what favorite games you like to play with you pets to keep cool.
