USA Today reports the authorities found multiple of piles of dead horses on Bruce Akersn 100 acre property along with about two dozen horses starving. The report said most of the dead horse where decayed, weathered, and the bones wear visible.
According to USA Today, the authorities found twenty-three horses alive. The horses were so starved , the authorities had to euthanize twenty of the horses (USA Today). The report explains that there were some food for the horses on the property. Yet, not enough to feed the horses for one day. Also, the food was not accessible to the horses.
The sad part is Akersn claims he is able to care for as many as seventy horses easily when he was arrested. If that is so, why was there not enough food for the horses. Why where there horses starving for a great amount of time. Also, why did the horses not have access to what food was on the property.
"'Don't imply that I can't handle what I am doing," the Age quotes Akersn as allegedly saying during his arrest. "I'm capable of handling 60 to 70 horses at a time and caring for them quite easily.'" (created to USA today, words from Akersn) Perhaps, wrestling the few years in the 70's cause this man to live in a fantasy world. Akersn has clearly neglected the horses for years. The bones of the horses around his 100 acre property is proof Akersn abuse to the horses has gone unnoticed for years.
No animal, Bully, cat, chicken, cow, or horse should ever suffer from neglect. One species suffers inhumanly, we all suffer. All lives matter and serve a higher purpose. There is no excuse for Akersn abuse and neglect.
